Tug of War Classical versus Modern Dressage

Quotations from Dr Heuschmann’s web site: “Your horse should be a trusted friend to you, not a slave.” Translated from Xenophon. And “If you’re not in the position to make your horse supple and through equally throughout its entire body, it’s better not to ride movements which require ultimate collection than to ride them in a caricature manner.? Translated from Oskar Maria Stensbec On those bases Dr Heuschmann has looked at Classical and Modern training methods in “Tug of War”

DR. GERD HEUSCHMANN trained as a Bereiter (master rider) in Germany before qualifying for veterinary study at Munich University. There he specialized in equine orthopaedics for two years before accepting a post as the head of the breeding department at the German FN, which he eventually left to start his own practice in Warendorf. He has been an active member of the hyperflexion (previously referred to as Rollkur) debate, weighing in at the 2005 USDF National Symposium and the 2006 FEI Veterinary and Dressage Committees Workshop.
